One documented case of a schoolboy educated, probably as a boarder, for a couple of years in Wateringbury is the son of Samuel Wesley (1766-1837), an organist and composer and nephew of John Wesley. In Phillip Olleson's book "Samuel Wesley: the Man and his music" (2003: ISBN 1843830310), Olleson records that after Samuel Wesley split from his wife, Charlotte, in 1803 his son Charles was sent to school in Wateringbury from which he wrote a number of letters to relatives which survive. In 1805 his parents got back together and Charles was called back to London from Wateringbury to go to school at St. Paul's School.
