Abuse of elderly person (1859)

Extract from Maidstone Telegraph 9th April 1859.

Frances Hook, described as an old person, was about 52 years old, the wife of a road labourer and living with her husband and 5 children at Taylor's Cottages (in Old Road rather than near the north Pole) at time of 1851 census.

There were two people called William Long in Wateringbury at the 1851 census both living in houses on Red Hill ( The Heath ) near the North Pole, one aged about 42 at the time of the incident and the other about 17.

Frances Hook, v Wm Long.—The defendant was charged with assaulting the complainant, who is an old person residing near the North Pole, Wateringbury, by shaking his fist in her face, using very abusive language to her, and by throwing a stone at her. Fined 1s., and costs.
