Busy cricket season (1896)

The following was reported in the Wateringbury Parish magazine for June 1896.

WATERINGBURY CRICKET CLUB.—

The Club has played three matches so far, winning two of them.

In the first match, against Teston, the Teston team made 197 for 4 wickets. For Wateringbury Pickett made the good score of 56 (not out) out of a total of 88.

Against East Malling the home club made the following score: Woodward, 6; Starmer, 16 ; Schneider, 16 ; Mendal, 46 ; A. Fry (not out), 37; Reeves 74; W. Fry, 0 ; J. Court (not out), 29 ; extras, 11 ; total (for 6 wickets), 235. East Mailing made 79, Reeves taking 4 wickets for 32, and Mendel 6 for 37.

In the match against Yalding the home team won easily in one innings, Dunkin making top score with 28, and Goodban, Fletcher, and Court each making double figures.
