Translation

One day Mrs. Nunn and her three children came into a grocery store.

At that time one man of the store staff, his name was Jeff, was taking rotten vegetables from the shopboard and putting them into a pasteboard box.

Mrs. Nunn came to Jeff and asked what he was going to do with the vegetables.

He replied that he was throwing them away.

Then Mrs. Nunn said that she had an unusual pet - a rabbit, and she would be very happy if Jeff gave the vegetables to her for the rabbit.

Jeff agreed on that with no longer thinking.

Actually, Mrs. Nunn didn't have a pet.

Her husband had lost his job while she didn't work taking care of her little children, so they had no money and nearly nothing to eat.

A soup, made of Jeff's vegetables, was certainly well timed at that moment.

So Mrs. Nunn was getting used to come to the grocery store nearly every day and every time she was given a box of vegetables from Jeff for the rabbit.

What's more, she often found canned meat, baby food or a bottle of juice in the bottom of the box under the vegetables.

After a while, the Nunns got better as Mr. and Mrs. Nunn had got a job while the children started to go to a kindergarten.

So Mrs. Nunn didn't need to beg for vegetables then.

Many years later, Mrs. Nunn came to the grocery store again and she was faced with Jeff who became a manager by that time.

Jeff smiled and asked how the rabbit was.

Mrs. Nunn smiled back and answered that the rabbit kepе its head up and sent Jeff its regards and many thanks for his help in rough times.

A young man is working at the supermarket. His name is Jeff. Jeff is throwing old vegetables into a box.

'What are you going to do with those vegetables?' Mrs.Nunn asks.

'I'm going to throw them in the garbage' Jeff says.

'Can I have them?' Mrs.Nunn asks. 'We have a pet rabbit. I can give the vegetables to the rabbit'.

'Sure, you can have the vegetables,' Jeff says. He gives Mrs.Nunn a big box of old vegetables.

The Nunn family doesn't really have a pet rabbit. Mrs.Nunn wants the old vegetables to make soup for her family.

Every week Jeff gives Mrs.Nunn a box of vegetables for the "rabbit".

Sometimes Mrs.Nunn finds cans of soup under the vegetables. Sometimes ahe finds soap, juice, or baby food.

When Mrs.Nunn goes to the supermerket one day, Jeff is not there.

He doesn't work at the supermarket anymore. But it doesn't matter.

Mrs.Nunn's husband is working again. She doesn't need the old vegetables.

Ten years go by. Mrs.Nunn is shopping at the supermarket when she sees Jeff.

He is standing in the store's office. He is the store manager now.

'Mrs.Nunn!' Jeff says. 'I think of you and your family often'. Then he asks quietly, 'How is the rabbit?'

'Thank you for asking,' Mrs.Nunn says and smiles. 'The rabbit left a long time ago. We are all doing fine.'
