U3. Q4-6. A name of yours

Do you like your name? Why/why not?

When I was a child I really hated my name - Vyacheslav.

I wondered why I had such a stupid ancient Slavic name.

It seemed to me to be complicated, pretentious and too much different from the names of my classmates.

I thought my name hadn’t been carefully chosen by my parents.

Later I realized that main characters of my favorite books usually had unique names.

In fact what do you think would be if there were three D'Artagnans in The Three Musketeers? It’s nonsense.

So I gradually became accustomed that my name isn’t as bad as I had thought.

Now I am quite at peace with my name.

It’s uncommon and stylish.

So it pushes me to be a figure in the crowd, to be a self-contained individual whom I want to be.

In conclusion I would like to say that I like my name because it suites me.

If could change all or part of your name, what would you choose? Why?

I don’t want to change my name Vyacheslav because it fits me like a glove.

I would certainly change my name if I emigrated to an English-speaking country because Slavic names are quite difficult to pronounce for English native speakers.

When I learned at an information technology course in South Africa in 2008, I have a chance to prove that.

There were two of us who had the name with the main part -slav and the teacher who found it difficult to get his tongue round called us Slava One and Slava Two.

So maybe I would choose one of the names of my favorite actors – Sean, David or Liam. What disadvantages might there be to changing your name?

There might certainly be some disadvantages when you are changing your name.

Firstly, you would have to accustom to a new name. In the beginning, you probably mightn't react if somebody called you.

Secondly, all the documents of your personality, your property and your car would be registered to your old name.

Finally, even you would live in the other country; anyway there could be some people who had known your old name and continued calling you so.

To sum up I would like to say that there are some disadvantages of changing your name but that isn't a big deal if you decide doing so.
