which word?

Many of these words involve making somebody believe something that is not true, but some of them are more disapproving than others. Deceive is probably the worst because people typically deceive friends, relations and others who know and trust them. People may feel cheated/betrayed by somebody in authority who they trusted to look after their interests. If somebody takes you in, they may do it by acting a part and using words and charm effectively. If somebody cheats/fools/tricks/cons you, they may get something from you and make you feel stupid. However, somebody might fool you just as a joke; and to trick somebody is sometimes seen as a clever thing to do, if the person being tricked is seen as a bad person who deserves it.

Various

Deceiving is similar to lying, and cheating is similar to stealing or breaking the rules.

"Deceive" means to deliberately mislead someone.

"Cheat" indicates the cheater also gains something from the deception (eg. money, advantage).

Cheating can sometimes be forgiven, deception simply can’t

Cheating can also be labeled as a “mistake” in most cases. If the person didn’t have the intention to cheat, it’s a mistake and they’ll do whatever they can to make up for it. While deception isn’t a mistake and it can’t be forgiven or forgotten. When a person cheats, he or she doesn’t really want to but they just couldn’t control themselves enough to stop themselves from doing it (be it physical or emotional cheating), but deception is something far worse than a mistake, it’s something they’ve been wanting to do and weren’t happy until they did it. People who deceive aren’t even completely sorry for what they did, and they damn sure will do it again whenever they get the chance to. So don’t take this lightly, if you’ve been deceived in your life it means you’re a very emotionally-weak person and you need to be a better judge of character.
