CAE. Proposal p.1

A national TV channel is planning a series of documentary programmes about unusual hobbies and is looking for people and their hobbies to feature in the programmes.

The series producer invites you to send a proposal outlining ideas for two of these programmes which should be aimed at general audiences rather than other people doing these hobbies. Your proposal should suggest hobbies of different types and give reasons why you think they would make successful TV programmes.

1.

Firstly, responding to your invitation, I would like to say that documentaries about hobbies will surely be warmly welcomed by viewers all over the country. I would like to suggest two examples of main concepts to form these programmes.

My first idea is to make a programme about the most dangerous hobbies in the world. It is known that some people are inclined to be attracted to different risky activities. What is more, a great number of people fancy watching those performances of others on TV while taking no risk themselves. The list of those interests can include javelin catching, collecting venomous insects, diving with sharks, base jumping and many others. I am sure that this episode of the series will appeal many people due to being thrilled and spectacular at the same time.

My second idea is connected with social duties. So, I would suggest a documentary about people who prefer to spend their pastime on volunteering for social-oriented projects. They can be ones who help in finding missing people or new owners for left-alone pets. They can take part in firefighting or in clearing rubbles. Not only will this programme be attractive for many people because of the sympathy with victims and rescuers but also will focus everyone's attention on social issues and can help to engage people in volunteering activities.

I suppose my proposals to be eligible for the series owing to the reasons I have mentioned earlier. I am looking forward to your positive decision about making episodes according to my ideas.

I consider firefighting or clearing piles of rubble, let alone finding missing people or new owners for left-alone pets, as quite unusual hobbies. Not only will this programme be attractive for many people because of the sympathy with victims and rescuers but also will make everyone's attention to be focused on social issues and can help to engage people in volunteering activities.
