Report on a work experience programme

Introduction

The aim of this report is to present a feedback of the work experience programme of an international hotel chain, as well as to deliver some information about issues with this programme and to recommend some improvements to it.

Proposed duties

I have worked in the hotel for one month.

During this period, I participated in three different activities.

Firstly, I was asked to be a porter, then to assist at the hotel restaurant, and, finally, to support a desk clerk at the reception.

Positive and negotive aspects

For me, the clerk assistant and the waiter positions appeared to be more favourable and profitable.

These two posts allowed me to develop sociable skills and improve my English in conversations with the guests of the hotel.

What is more, I took the opportunity to study the internal life of a huge hotel and to be provided with the information of how the hotel is working.

As for negotive aspects, I found the porter's work dull and not to be beneficial for the participants of the programme.

The next issue is a lack of introductory training for waiters and desk assistants.

There was no crash courses for them and I had to learn thinf by trial-and-error method.

Recommendations for improvements

I would suggest that future programmes should keep the positions of waiter and desk assistant for the participants but avoid to propose a porter's vacancy to them.

I suppose, this measure can attract more attantion to the programme from school-leavers.

Besides, it would be a good idea to provide every position with an itroductory course to make the participants' work effective while their working life more easier and happy.
