Your class has participated in a discussion on the following proposition: People in the modern world have become too reliant on information technology. You have made the notes below

Some areas to cover:

    • working life

    • studying

    • leisure time

Some opinions expressed during the discussion:

    • Most people spend too long using social media instead of seeing real people

    • Instead of thinking about things carefully, most people just look for quick solutions on the Internet

    • Information technology allows us to deal with so many things more quickly abd efficiently

Write an essay on the proposition above.

1.

Some people worry that they have become vulnerable, to some extent, because they too depend on information technology. This may be true but I believe that people always are reliant on their equipment in surviving. So, it is not a nowadays issue and the only thing that we should need to do is to define the pros and cons of the modern IT as a basis for our lives today.

I believe wholeheartedly that, generally, technological improvements have made our life easier and better. For instance, I am learning English and, thanks the Internet and digital books, it takes me much less time to find words' translation or grammar rules, to check my knowledge or to have some relevant information. As an engineer, I have to deal with difficult projects and issues every day. Frankly speaking, I cannot imagine how I could get along with them having no access to tons of documentation and some people advice that I could find on the global web. So, I think IT makes us to be agile and efficient in doing our working and studying chores.

On the contrary, there are many people who prefer just to look for a quick and easy step-by-step how-to to cope a new task instead of carefully undertaking some research into the issue themselves. What is more, some students seek for the answers to their home tasks and even copy essays without much changing to present them as their own works. I consider those people as fatuous ones due to their belief that the easiest way is the best one. True it is, they refuse to develop their mind but it is their choice.

In conclusion, I would like to say that IT is just a kind of human technology similar, paradigmatically, to the bow and arrows or railroads in changing people's lives. Everyone can choose how to use it - taking advantages or just having got a freebie. If you ask me, I deem that it is a great gift to my generation as if we would have the most powerful weapon or a book of the answers to all the questions.

Many people worry that we have become quite vulnerable because of depending on information technology too much. This may be true but I believe that people always have a reliance on their equipment in surviving. So, it is not a today issue, and the only thing that we need to do is to define the pros and cons of hi-tech treasures which flourish nowadays.

I believe wholeheartedly that technological improvements have made our life better and easier. For instance, I am learning English and, thanks the Internet and digital books, it takes me half as much time to find words' translation or to check grammar rules as it could if I did not have all these modern technological marvels. I believe that every student prays to them. As an engineer, I have to deal with difficult projects and issues every day. Frankly speaking, I cannot imagine how I could get along with them having no access to tons of documentation and recommendations that I could find on the World Wide Web. So, I am sure that IT makes my working life less troublesome.
