Codonopsis / Arme mensen ginseng

Toepassing

Tegenwoordig kun je Poor Man's Ginseng vooral vinden in voedingssupplementen: in capsule- of tabletvorm.

    • Verlagen van de bloeddruk en verhogen van weerstand tegen stress;

    • Verhogen van de energie niveaus;

    • Helpen bij verteringsproblemen;

    • Effecten van stress verminderen;

    • Positief effect op het geheugen;

    • Helpen bij astma en kortademigheid;

    • Versterken van de longen;

    • Versterken van milt en maag;

    • Herstel van de lever;

    • Stimulatie van het zenuwstelsel.

Dosering

Daarom is Poor Man's Ginseng relatief veilig voor lange termijn gebruik.

    • Bij patiënten met bloedingen;

    • Bij gebruik van laxeermiddelen of stoelgangverzachters;

    • Bij gevoelige darmen en blindedarmontsteking;

    • Als u zwanger probeert te raken.

Verder wordt Codonopsis afgeraden voor:

Zwangere vrouwen of vrouwen die borstvoeding geven: er is niet voldoende onderzoek gedaan over de effecten van Codonopsis;

In combinatie met aspirine of bloedverdunners;

Als u vruchtbaarheidsmedicijnen neemt.

Codonopsis is a fast-growing vine that blooms during the summer and fall. The roots of codonopsis are harvested during its third year or fourth year of growth for medicinal use.Codonopsis is known as "poor man's ginseng." In ancient China, codonopsis was used along with ginseng to create a tonic that helped replenish one's "qi" or vital energy.

Pharmacology / Werking Codonopsis

Constituents: Constituents of codonopsis include friedelin, taraxerol, alpha-spinasterol, alpha-spinasterol-beta-D-glucopyranoside, n-butyl-alpha-D-fructofuranoside, n-butyl-beta-D-fructopyranoside, tangshenosid I, and 3-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1-3)-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl]-3beta,16alpha-dihydroxyolean-28-oic acid 28-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl (1-3)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1-2)-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl] (7; 32; 33; 34).

    • Antifertility activity: A 50% ethanolic extract of Codonopsis ovata Benth. prevented implantation in female rats (13).

    • Antiobesity effects: Based on a rat study, codonopsis's mechanism of anti-obesity might be related with its metabolism regulating actions on lipids and glucose (26).

    • Antioxidant effects: Codonopsis lanceolata has been shown in an in vitro study and a rat study to increase superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and inhibit lipid peroxidation (1; 19).

    • Cardiac effects: Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf. exhibited cardiotonic action when administered to the myocardial cells of rats (35). Phosphodiesterase was inhibited and cAMP was less hydrolyzed.

    • Coagulation effects: Codonopsis pilosula decreased blood coagulation by inhibiting platelet aggregation in the plasma of 25 patients of coronary heart disease with blood stasis (12).

    • Cytotoxic activity: Codonoposide 1c was found to be a potent inducer of apoptosis and to facilitate activity via Bid cleavage and translocation to mitochondria, Bax reduction in cytosol, release of cytochrome c and Smac/DIABLO, a mitochondrial protein, into the cytosol, and subsequently caspase activation, providing a potential mechanism for the cytotoxic activity of codonoposide 1c (6).

    • Gastrointestinal effects: Codonopsis pilosula reduced gastric acid-pepsin secretion in rats (14). It is possible that inhibition of gastrointestinal movement is one of the mechanisms underlying the antiulcer action of Codonopsis pilosula extract (14). Dangshen excited isolated rat gastric smooth muscle strips, an action that was partially mediated via cholinergic M and N receptors (23).

    • Hepatic effects: In mice, oral pollen of Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) counteracted a carbon tetrachloride-induced liver lesion, reduced the hepatic steatosis, improved liver necrosis, and suppressed the formation of the collagen fibrils in Disse's spaces and around central veinules (18).

    • Immunomodulatory effects: Codonopsis pilosula root extract demonstrated immunomodulatory effects in mice by lowering mitogenic responses to glycoproteins and lipopolysaccharides and inhibiting reactive nitrogen intermediates (36).

    • Memory effects: Codonopsis lanceolata has been shown to increase superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and decrease lipid peroxide (LPO) levels in mice which may play a role of promoting learning and memory (19). Codonopsis also appears to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, which is thought to play a role in mental function (20).

    • Nerve cell effects: Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf. alkaloids enhanced the nerve growth factor-induced neurite outgrowth in Pheochromocytoma cell lines by amplifying an up-stream step of the mitogen-activated protein kinase-dependent signaling pathway (25).
