Maag- en darmklachten

Een uitgesproken zwakke secretie van maag- en darmsappen kan de basis vormen voor verscheidene klachten. De beschermende slijmvlieswand kan sneller geïrriteerd raken, reageren met misselijkheid, maagzuurklachten, pijn of kramp, obstipatie of diarree (soms zelfs onverteerd voedsel in de ontlasting). Daarnaast zal de opname van vitale stoffen en de uitscheiding van toxische stoffen te zwak zijn.

Er is aanleg voor bleekheid, moeheid, bloedarmoede, kouwelijkheid, voedselgevoeligheid/allergie en een zwakker afweersysteem. Zekerop de lange duur ligt hier een basis voor chronische klachten door ‘acidose’, een sterke verzuringstendens die zeer belastend is voor veel stofwisselingsprocessen . Het belangrijkste uitgangspunt in de therapie is het versterken van de secretie van zowel maag als d armen, zoals de aanmaak van gal- en pancreasenzymen. Zowel bij de behandeling als bij het voorkomen van klachten kunnen we gebruik maken van Erythrea centaurium en Rosmarinus officinalis, eventueel in combinatie.

Erythrea centaurium (duizendguldenkruid) is een sterke Amara pura die ‘vuur en beweging’ brengt in de gehele spijsvertering. Het activeert alle spijsverteringsklieren door amarogentine en gentianine en versterkt de doorbloeding in de slijmvliezen van maag en darm. Duizendguldenkruid is geschikt in situaties waarbij sprake is van ‘stagnatie’. Het verbetert de opname van vitale stoffen waardoor bloedbeeld, afweersysteem en zenuwstelsel worden opgewaardeerd. Duizendguldenkruid past bij de zogenaamde ‘leptosoom’, de mens met een wat mager, tanig postuur, neigend naar ondergewicht, afstandelijkheid en de behoefte zich terug te trekken. Er kan aanleg zijn voor ‘verbittering of teleurstelling’ als mentaal-emotionele component.

Rosmarinus officinalis (rozemarijn) heeft als Amara aromaticum naast de bitterstofwerking carminatieve (gasafdrijvend door etherische oliën) en spasmolytische (o.a. cineol en camphor) eigenschappen. Het ondersteunt en versterkt de werking van duizendguldenkruid en heeft daarnaast door de flavonoïden een krachtige werking op de bloedcirculatie. Rozemarijn kan gezien worden als een tonicum voor de gehele spijsvertering en bloedcirculatie.

De combinatie van duizendguldenkruid en rozemarijn is zeer geschikt bij anorexie (gebrek aan eetlust), hypo-aciditeit (matig maagzuur), dyspepsie, krampen en kolieken in de darm, obstipatie en als ondersteuning bij onder andere nervositeit, stress, vermoeidheidsklachten, bloedarmoede en een te zwakke afweer.

Gisting en rotting als basis voor klachtontwikkelingen

Een dikke, opgeblazen buik. Een postuur dat er aan de achterkant nog normaal uitziet, maar aan de voorkant veel weg heeft van een ‘grote trom’: het is bij veel mannen geen uitzondering meer. In het algemeen is hier sprake van koolhydratendyspepsie of eiwitdyspepsie (gasvorming door gisting en/of rotting in de darmen). Dit gaat vaak gepaard met symptomen als flatulentie, vol gevoel, boeren, brandend maagzuur en wisselend obstipatie of brijachtige ontlasting. In veel gevallen wordt dit niet als directe klacht ervaren en blijft men er gewoon mee doorlopen.

De huisarts wordt meestal pas geraadpleegd als er secundaire klachten ontstaan. Dit proces kan leiden tot klachten die variëren van krampen, hypertensie, kortademigheid bij inspanning met benauwdheid op de borst, onrustgevoel in de benen en huidklachten tot vermoeidheid, hoofdpijnen of hoesten met slijm. Het lichaam probeert immers op allerlei manieren een belemmering te compenseren, via de uitscheiding, via opslag in de weefsels of door andere ontgiftende orgaanstelsels (lever, lymfe, nieren, luchtwegen) meer te belasten. Rotting en gisting in de darmen leveren een enorme toevoer van toxinen op en zorgen voor een milieu waarin ernstigere aandoeningen zich kunnen ontwikkelen.

Oorzaken van deze klachten zijn zowel fysiek als mentaal/emotioneel. Een belangrijke factor is het voedingspatroon, denk aan de onevenwichtige eetgewoontes met onder meer veel suikers, frisdranken, alcohol en vlees. Daarnaast spelen zwakte van galaanmaak (lever), enzymaanmaak (pancreas) en een niet te onderschatten psychische component die we met ‘onverteerbare zaken’ (o.a. angsten, boosheid, teleurstelling, conflicten) kunnen aanduiden, een rol. Voor wat betreft de therapie is het voor de therapeut (en de patiënt) belangrijk hier inzicht in te krijgen.

Als voorbeeld volgen twee combinaties van planten bij dyspepsie, gisting en rotting. Eén combinatie met Angelica archangelica als hoofdkeus bij het ‘melancholische’ temperament. Het tweede voorbeeld heeft als uitgansgpunt de inzet van Taraxacum officinale bij de zogenaamde ‘cholericus’.

Angelica archangelica (grote engelwortel) heeft als ‘Amara aromatica’ diverse eigenschappen in zich verenigd. De bitterstoffen activeren de secretie van sappen (maag, darm, lever, pancreas). Antiseptisch, anti-inflammatoir, carminatief en zeer spasmolytisch door de etherische oliën (o.a.bisabolol, angelicine), mag deze plant gezien worden als sterke opruimer en versterker van de totale spijsvertering door verbetering van eiwit- en vetvertering. De engelwortel past specifiek bij diegenen met aanleg voor spasmen, krampachtigheid en spanning, die zich uit in het middengebied (spijsvertering).

Zo’n persoonlijkheid voelt zich vaak gevoelsmatig in de kou staan. De compensatie voor dit gevoel is vaak een vergrote behoefte aan zoet en het ‘weg eten’ van moeilijk verteerbare indrukken. Klachten als hoesten met slijm, vooral in de ochtend (uitscheiding), gevoeligheid voor schimmels, opgeblazenheid na het eten met veel flatulentie en slapeloosheid kunnen de keus voor Angelica versterken.

Taraxacum officinalis (paardenbloem)

De tegenhanger van bovenstaand beeld (dyspepsie bij ‘melancholicus’) is de ‘dyspepsie’ bij de stressvolle, driftige of ongeduldige mens met een overmatige behoefte aan ‘prikkels’ als koffie, alcohol, hartige snacks en pittig gekruid voedsel. Hier kan sprake zijn van teveel belaste darmen.

Er moet constant gewerkt worden om alles te verteren en er is geen rust. Mentaal/emotioneel is er aanleg voor geïrriteerdheid, drift, ongeduld en boosheid. Vooral de boosheid kan een belangrijk gegeven zijn. Hij of zij wordt niet boos, maar is eigenlijk al boos en zoekt (en vindt) steeds kapstokken om zijn boosheid aan op te hangen. Ook hier kan de compensatie gezocht worden in het weg eten van emoties. Er is aanleg voor overbelasting in de darmen, die zich kan uiten in oprispingen, zuurbranden, wisselende ontlasting en zweervorming. Belangrijk is hier het ‘teveel’ af te voeren en de onderliggende boosheid op te zoeken en te herkennen zodat het uiteindelijk losgelaten (connectie colon/dikke darm) kan worden. Taraxacum officinalis is een ‘Amara pura’, die naast het activeren van de secretie van maag- en darmsappen ook de galaanmaak activeert. Hierdoor is er een opwaardering van de gehele spijsvertering. Daarnaast bezit Taraxacum diuretische eigenschappen, waardoor toxinen sneller door de nieren afgevoerd kunnen worden.

Mentha piperita (pepermunt) versterkt de werking van Taraxacum, is door zijn etherische oliën een sterk ‘carminativum’ en brengt rust in de ‘oververhitte’ spijsvertering. Pepermunt is specifiek geschikt om zwaar verteerbare zaken te verwerken. Het is vooral bij krampen en spasmen (spastisch colon) heilzaam vanwege de etherische oliën en looistoffen.

Hypericum perforatum (St. Janskruid) is als sedativum met een breed werkingsgebied zowel werkzaam in de spijsvertering als in de psyche. Hypericum heeft in zijn werking een zogeheten ‘cholinergisch’ effect, dat wil zeggen een versterkte werking op de spijsverteringsactiviteit en een rustgevend effect op de hartfrequentie door beïnvloeding van de ‘cholinergische’ zenuwen (prikkelgeleiding). Zowel Mentha als Hypericum hebben tevens galaanmaak-bevorderende eigenschappen.
