Haargroei / Haaruitval

Haaruitval is een normaal verschijnsel. Ieder mens verliest dagelijks haar.

    • Andere ziektes: stress, medicijnen (kankerbehandeling)…

Fytotherapie

    • Glyccyrhiza / Zoethout: oestrogeeneffect, remt aanmaak DHT

    • Serenoa repens / Dwergpalm: remt aanmaak DHT

Doorbloedingbevorderende planten (etherische olie, mosterdolieglycosiden)

    • Arctium lappa / Grote klis: droge, schilferige hoofdhuid (klitwortelolie)

    • Betula / Berk (water, lotion)

    • Nasturtium / Waterkers (mosterdolieglycosiden)

    • Tropaeolum / Oost-Indische kers (mosterdolieglycosiden)

    • Urtica / Brandnetel

    • Stress vermijden (hormonaal evenwicht)

Haarverzorging (receptuur)

Indicatie: haaruitval (Belaiche)

    • Spoelmiddel: 150gr. Echte kamillebloemen in 1 liter water 15 min. koken (decoct) als laatste spoelmiddel gebruiken (laten opdrogen) om het haar lichtjes te blonderen.

    • Hydrolaten of kruidenaftreksels van Salvia, Urtica en heermoes als lotion of spoelwater.

    • Sesamolie en Saffloerolie worden gebruikt in de Chinese kruidengeneeskunde, om de hoofdhuid te masseren.

    • R./tegen vet haar:

Rosmarinus eo 20dr;

Salvia eo 20dr.

(Zingiber eo 20dr.)

Nasturtium MT 50 cc

Panax ginseng MT 50 cc Dos. 10 dr. 1x daags in hydrolaat

Maurice Godefridi / Herboristen Opleiding 'Dodonaeus' 2011

Baldness vlgs James Duke

Another phone call, another desperate voice, this one from far-off California. I'm always getting calls for help from people who are looking for herbal advice on how to deal with their health problems. Even though I never discovered how this man found me, I still remember how upset he was about losing his hair.

We talked, and I wound up faxing him information about saw palmetto. This herb works by preventing the conversion of the male sex hormone testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a substance that plays a role in prostate enlargement. DHT is also the hormone that may kill off hair follicles and can lead to male-pattern baldness. I suggested to my caller that saw palmetto might help slow his hair loss.

Hair loss is genetically influenced but hard to predict. Sometimes all the men in a family go bald, and sometimes only a few do. But more than half of American men suffer significant hair loss by age 45. Many women also suffer hair loss, but it's almost always much less severe.

Green Pharmacy for Baldness

While I can't promise that my herbal approaches will cover your dome with a thick mat of hair, these natural alternatives might be worth a try.

Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens). This remains my top choice, although you might want to use a combination of approaches that includes an anti-baldness medication such as minoxidil (Rogaine) or finasteride (Proscar). Biochemistry supports saw palmetto. We know that DHT kills off the hair follicles, and taking this herb internally blocks the formation of DHT. If it turns out that saw palmetto helps prevent hair loss, it would be the herb for men, since studies have shown that it also helps prevent prostate enlargement.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra). Licorice contains one compound that prevents the conversion of testosterone to DHT. You could prepare a baldness-prevention shampoo by adding licorice to your favorite shampoo when you shower.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis). For centuries, if not millennia, both men and women have massaged their scalps with rosemary in olive oil to keep their hair lush and healthy. Is there anything to really recommend this practice, besides wishful thinking? Massaging the scalp certainly stimulates circulation and encourages hair growth, according to Wilma F. Bergfeld, M.D., of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. Naturopaths often suggest nightly scalp massage with one part rosemary oil and two parts almond oil.

Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) and sage (Salvia officinalis). Danshen is actually Asian red sage. In folklore, both danshen and native sage have long-standing reputations as hair preservers.

In this country, people frequently used sage extracts in hair rinses and shampoos. The herb allegedly had the ability to prevent hair loss and maintain hair color. This folk use of herbs is unlikely to cause any harm, so I suggest that you try adding a few teaspoons of sage tincture to your favorite shampoo.

Horsetail (Equisetum, various species). The minerals selenium and silicon both help promote circulation to the scalp, and as a result, they help maintain hair, according to naturopathic physicians. Both minerals abound in horsetail. I'd try adding a teaspoon or so of dried horsetail to herbal teas, but you should check with a holistic practitioner before using this herb.

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius). In Chinese herbal medicine, safflower is considered a vasodilator, a substance that causes blood vessels to open up. Apparently, it also helps open the blood vessels in the scalp, and Chinese physicians believe that safflower helps nutrients get to the hair follicles. You can massage your scalp with safflower oil or grind up a few tablespoons of whole seeds and add the powder to an herbal shampoo.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum). Sesame seeds are also a Chinese treatment for hair loss, according to pharmacognosist (natural product pharmacist) Albert Leung, Ph.D. Just for taste, you can add toasted sesame seeds to all kinds of dishes, and if the additional sesame helps you keep your hair, so much the better.

stinging nettle (Urtica dioica). Tincture of nettle leaf can help prevent balding in those with thinning hair, according to Rudolf Fritz Weiss, M.D., the dean of German herbal physicians and author of Herbal Medicine. I don't know of any studies supporting this, but I respect Dr. Weiss.

Perhaps his endorsement of nettle is a remnant of the Doctrine of Signatures, which was the idea that a plant's appearance announces its medicinal value. Nettle is a hairy plant, so the doctrine would endorse its use for hair problems.

On the other hand, maybe there will be some other evidence to recommend this herb for balding. The more researchers look at nettle, the more uses they seem to find. Taking a teaspoon or two of tincture a day--or one or two cups of nettle tea--certainly shouldn't hurt.

Dietary soy oil content and soy-derived phytoestrogen genistein increase resistance to alopecia areata onset in C3H/HeJ mice.

Exp Dermatol. 2003.

We considered dietary soy (soya) oil content and the soy-derived phytoestrogen genistein as potential modifying agents for C3H/HeJ mouse AA. Normal haired C3H/HeJ mice were grafted with skin from spontaneous AA affected mice, a method previously shown to induce alopecia areata. Grafted mice were given one of three diets containing 1%, 5% or 20% soy oil and observed for AA development. In a separate study, mice on a 1% soy oil diet were injected with 1 mg of genistein three times per week for 10 weeks or received the vehicle as a control. Of mice on 1%, 5%, and 20% soy oil diets, 43 of 50 mice (86%), 11 of 28 mice (39%), and 2 of 11 mice (18%) developed alopecia areata, respectively. Four of 10 mice injected with genistein and 9 of 10 controls developed alopecia areata. Mice with alopecia areata had hair follicle inflammation consistent with observations for spontaneous mouse alopecia areata, but no significant association was observed between the extent of hair loss and diet or genistein injection. Mice that failed to develop alopecia areata typically experience white hair regrowth from their skin grafts associated with a moderate macrophage and dendritic cell infiltration. Soy oil and derivatives have previously been reported to modify inflammatory conditions. Hypothetically, soy oil compounds may act on C3H/HeJ mice through modulating estrogen-dependent mechanisms and/or inflammatory activity to modify alopecia areata susceptibility.

Onion juice (Allium cepa L.), a new topical treatment for alopecia areata.

J Dermatol. 2002. Sharquie KE, Al-Obaidi HK. Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Iraq.

This study was designed to test the effectiveness of topical crude onion juice in the treatment of patchy alopecia areata in comparison with tap water. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group [onion juice treated] consisted of 23 patients, 16 males (69.5%) and 7 females (30.5%). Their ages ranged between 5-42 years with a mean of 22 years. The second group [control; tap-water-treated] consisted of 15 patients, 8 males (53%) and 7 females (46%). Their ages ranged between 3-35 years with a mean of 18.3 years. The two groups were advised to apply the treatment twice daily for two months. Re-growth of terminal coarse hairs started after two weeks of treatment with crude onion juice. At four weeks, hair re-growth was seen in 17 patients (73%), and, at six weeks, the hair re-growth was observed in 20 patients (86.9%) and was significantly higher among males (93%) compared to females (71%). In the tap-water treated-control group, hair re-growth was apparent in only 2 patients (13%) at 8 weeks of treatment with no sex difference. The present study showed that the use of crude onion juice gave significantly higher results with regard to hair re-growth than did tap water, and that it can be an effective topical therapy for patchy alopecia areata.

HALTING HAIR LOSS WITH AROMATHERAPY

It appears that aromatherapy can help a hair loss problem known as Alopecia areata, a disease developed by about 1% of people in the US. It causes bald spots about an inch across and has no medical cure. Medical researchers think the condition may stem from an autoimmune problem and be associated with allergies. In a Scottish trial, one group massaged their scalps every day with oil that contained the essential oils of thyme (Thymus vulgaris), lavender (Lavandula vera), cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica), and rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) in a base of grape seed oil and jojoba. After seven months, 44% had more hair growth compared to only 15% in a control group who did their massage with the base oil without any essential oils. The essential oils caused no significant side effects so proved far safer than the steroid injections usually prescribed. The study noted that many essential oils kill fungi and bacteria and treat psoriasis, dementia, and even papiloma skin cancers in animals.

Dosage

La préparation employée au cours de cette étude : mettre 3 gouttes d’HE de romarin, 2 gouttes d’HE de thym, 3 gouttes d’HE de lavande et 2 gouttes d’HE de cèdre de l’Atlantique dans 23 ml d’huile végétale (3 ml d’huile de jojoba et 20 ml d’huile de pépin de raisin).

Note.

- manger moins de protéines (ne pas dépasser 10 % de l’apport calorique total) ;

- privilégier les protéines d’origine végétale (les légumineuses, le tofu, les noix, les graines et les produits céréaliers) ;

- cesser de consommer du lait et des produits laitiers et les remplacer par d’autres sources de calcium;

- manger plus de fruits et de légumes, préférablement issus de l’agriculture biologique ;

- utiliser l’huile d’olive extravierge comme principale source de gras (bannir les huiles végétales riches en acides gras polyinsaturés, la margarine, le shortening, les gras trans) ;

- augmenter l’apport en acides gras oméga-3 (maquereau, saumon, sardines, hareng, graines de lin, etc.).
