The Crowds kept Coming (YB No 131)

Some stories are told of Jesus’ appeal,

Of teachings he gave, of how he would heal;

The sick, poor and outcasts invaded his heart;

Their cries of distress nearly tore him apart.

Disciples were tired; they wanted to eat;

They needed some peace; they tried to retreat;

But crowds kept on pressing; gave Jesus no rest;

He could not ignore them; they were so oppressed.

We don’t understand the strength of this man;

He gave of himself much more than we can.

Yet all we give others, the love that we share

Can soften the blows of deep human despair.

The balance in life is hard to achieve;

When should we provide? When should we receive?

The answers may come if we look to our Guide

To live life with kindness and in love abide.
