Temptation (YA No 25)

The gospel tells a tale

Of his humanity –

How Jesus struggled with himself

Sometimes in agony.

Temptation came to him,

Just like to you and me;

Each day he had to choose again

To live love constantly.

To struggle for the right –

But fail and do the wrong

Is like, when singing out of tune,

We can destroy the song.

We wish for harmony;

Yet conflict bars the way

To happiness and to the peace

We yearn for every day.

But victory can be ours;

The battle can be won;

With our companion God within

Our triumph has begun.
