Does it really matter? (Vol 2 No 57)

We wonder if it matters,

If what we’re told is true

That having many assets

Is what we must pursue?

We cannot ask possessions

To bring us hope and peace;

From endlessly consuming

We seek and need release.

We wonder if it matters,

If what we’re told is true

That gaining extra status

Is what we need to do?

We wonder if it matters

To climb the social scale?

Is this the only measure

To judge our pass or fail?

From Jesus and his message

We gain equality;

Have wealth and fame or nothing

Be monarch, refugee,

In Jesus we are equal

No matter what our past;

For status does not matter;

In fact, the ‘first’ is ‘last’!

We wonder what might matter;

We question what is true;

We listen to his teaching;

His wisdom old, yet new;

From Jesus we have guidance;

His insights, so profound;

If we but follow closely

Then hope and love abound.
