Stories of disciples (Vol 2 No 87)

The stories of disciples are those I like to hear,

They tell of normal people whom Jesus held most dear.

Although they were not heroes, we know they were sincere;

They went where Jesus lead them, in happiness and fear.

These stories of desertion, behavior at its worst,

They tell of men who quarreled, who wanted to be first.

Some stories have such detail so we might clearly see

Disciples are not perfect, but just like you and me.

Sometimes it is forgotten that women played their part,

Providing for the others; they followed from the start.

They witnessed Jesus’ torture; they saw him slowly die,

And women had first knowledge of what would mystify.

These stories are a challenge; they speak with weighty force;

We learn how those disciples pursued a fearless course.

Transforming is that power, in Jesus clearly shown;

We too can share the victory; see evil overthrown.
