After Pentecost     Christ the King     Mark 13:1-8 not used.  John 18:33-37 preferred

My kingdom (YB No 151)

When Pilate asked “Are you a king?”

He wanted to be sure

That Jesus and the threat he posed

Would not lead into war.

The Romans ruled by brutal force;

Submission was their goal;

They crucified, they killed dissent;

Their armies kept control.

 “My kingdom is not like this world,

Where violence is supreme.”

For Jesus, love and justice were

The core of God’s regime.

If we would follow Jesus’ cause

Then violence has no place;

We struggle to see right prevail

Through words and deeds of grace.
