After Pentecost     Pentecost 3     Mark 4:26-34

Growing Seeds (YB No 126)

When Jesus used his stories to teach

Myst’ries of God thought out of reach,

This Rabbi used what people knew

To teach what he believed was true.

God’s kingdom is like growth of corn,

Through nature’s bounty it is born;

The farmer knew not how seeds grow,

But this grand process was on show.

God’s reign is like small seeds when sown

Give birth to massive shrubs when grown;

Like Mustard, smaller than the rest,

Grows branches in which birds can nest.

Silent and wondrous is God’s reign;

We trust what we cannot explain;

We have God’s wisdom teaching strong

Telling us all that we belong.
