Jesus in conflict (Vol 3 No 40)
Jesus in conflict (Vol 3 No 40)
We should not marvel, be surprised
That in his day he was despised;
Jesus, by foes, was victimised;
He was a threat!
He disobeyed religious law;
He gave real honour to a whore;
He criticised the priests, therefore
He was a threat!
Disciples of the Pharisees –
Sinister were their strategies;
He knew they were his enemies –
They were a threat.
The questions asked were not sincere;
‘Should we pay tax to Rome each year?’
They thought they’d trapped him; they could sneer;
They are a threat!
These actions of disharmony
Are closely linked quite tragically
To Roman gross brutality
And so he died.
For God’s regime to prosper well,
To counter schemes conceived in hell,
We need our martyrs who rebel;
And so he died.
