I must leave (Vol 3 No 79)
I can’t stay in a place where I’m captive
To so much that I don’t believe,
Where the doctrines and creeds are exclusive;
So I’m off! I feel that I must leave.
Shun the might
Of being right,
And leave the promises of certainty;
When I leave
I shall retrieve
A faith with credibility.
I must leave sacred texts without error –
The belief that they’re always right;
Must resist bigotry linked to gender,
Pushing ‘gays’ into their darkest night.
Shun the might
Of being right
And leave the promises of certainty;
When I leave
I shall retrieve
A faith with credibility.
When I leave, I embark on a journey;
But to where? I am not quite sure;
To be free from a system that binds me –
It’s like jumping through an open door!
I keep going
Without knowing
Where the final destination is;
All directions
Foster questions
Life is such a puzzling quiz.
I must go through the doorway to mystery
Where my faith can revive, live on;
Where tradition and all of my history
Can be honoured, but its grip has gone.
God’s forgiving
And thanksgiving
Fill the air - the place where my soul grows;
I will dare
To venture there
And where it is? God only knows.
