The Jesus story of times past (Vol 4 No 73)

The Jesus story of times past

Can stir in you and me

A purpose, that through life can last,

An inner harmony.

This brave yet humble Jewish sage

Who changed our history

Has spoken boldly to each age

Of love and liberty.

He would not compromise with wrong

Although it caused his death;

His love remained forever strong

Until his dying breath.

Compassion ruled; his heart was true;

He shunned security;

And thus, in life, he pointed to

A new humanity.

Alternatives for the last verse.

For me, he need not be a king

In heaven’s highest place;

I’ll follow him and gladly sing

Loud praises of his grace.

Or

This man of strength and gentleness

Forgiveness, truth and grace

Reveals a godly sacredness

I honour and embrace.
