Who is Jesus? (Vol 3 No 46)
Who is Jesus? Who is he?
He is asking you and me –
“What do others say about me?
What do you say as you face me?”
In his person can we see
One who calls to ministry?
Who is Jesus? Who is he?
Answers lead to mystery;
He cannot be fixed in dogma;
He will always point to extra;
In his person we can see
Love but not theology.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who sits children on his knee?
He’s the shepherd kind and gentle;
Love for him is fundamental;
In his person we can see
Love that streams from Galilee.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who gives love so full and free?
He loves others without ration;
Lives a life of strong compassion;
In his person we can see
What such love can do and be.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who gives constant ministry
To the outcast and forgotten,
To the ones considered rotten;
In his person we can see
Godly love and empathy.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who reveals God constantly?
In his life there is no hatred;
He communicates the sacred;
In his person we can see
God and human unity.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Teaching people to be free?
In rebellious different wisdom
He informs us of God’s Kingdom;
In his person we can see
Love that shapes true liberty.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who confounds the Sadducee?
He taught love, not temple order;
His acceptance knew no border;
In his person we can see
That ‘inclusion’ is the key.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Teaching, ‘Love your enemy.’?
“If you love just sisters, brothers,
You’re no different from all others.”
In his person we can see
Love without hostility.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who confronts inequity?
He had conflicts with the wealthy;
Wanted social structures healthy;
In his person we can see
God involved with poverty.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
For whom rank is vanity?
He was not impressed with status;
Modest service was his focus;
In his person we can see
Deep profound humility.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who is hanging on a tree?
He was always fighting evil;
Knowing it was at his peril:
In his person we can see
Love is born in tragedy.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who in death claimed victory?
Now he lives in all our giving,
In our mercy and forgiving;
In his person we can see
Love still lives triumphantly.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who gives purpose, dignity;
He’s the window I can look through
And behold true love and virtue;
In his person I can see
God’s love in humanity.
Who is Jesus? Who is he
Who is always friend to me?
He is God’s word so inviting,
And in love is so uniting;
In his person I can see
What my life can truly be.
