The church commits to witness
To Jesus and his word;
Her task to tell his story,
Make sure that it is heard.
Her challenge still continues
In ever changing ways
To give his story meaning,
Just as in ancient days.
We are profoundly thankful
For nurture in the church;
She points us to the Mystery;
Can energise our search;
We must not be distracted
By dogma that can thwart
Our quest to follow closely
The wisdom Jesus taught.
The church when heeding Jesus
Calls all humanity
To strive against corruption,
Promote true equity;
She strives to live the vision
That Jesus held so dear –
That love and truth and kindness
Would cast out human fear.
The church looks to the future;
She knows that love will win;
The Mystery is before us;
The Sacred is within;
And so we venture boldly
To what may lie ahead;
With confidence we travel
To where the Christ has led.
