After Pentecost     Pentecost 2     Mark 3:20-35, particularly verses 20-27

Beelzebub (YB No 125)

The ministry of Jesus brought him conflict;

Some teachers of the law were quite dismayed;

With crowds, they challenged him in his own district;

They clashed with him, but he was not afraid.

This conflict Jesus had grew by the hour;

And people said, “He’s mad!  There is no doubt!

The chief of demons gives him all his power;

And by that power casts all demons out.”

So Jesus asked a question - sounded foolish-

“Can Satan cast out Satan?  Can this be?”

“If nations are divided they will perish;

And families split will end in tragedy.”

Yes.  Jesus taught us by his good example;

We cannot heed such lies as ‘Greed is good.’

To throw away the good and practise evil

Again we nail him to his cross of wood.
