The Future (YB No 150)

Disciples were like most of us –

We question what will be;

We wish to know what lies beyond;

To know our destiny.

The wisdom that this story yields

Is, ‘Do not be deceived;

For some who claim to speak for me

Are not to be believed.’

‘When hearing of catastrophes

Of famine and of war,

These are not signs of things to come;

They happen as before.’

The knowledge of the future is

Much more than we could bear;

Although the future is not known

God travels with us there.

Let us then live the best we can

Without our future seen;

We have today, so let us love

Just like the Nazarene.
