Cross bearing (YB No 103

We need to hear with open ears

The challenge of the Christ today;

“Take up your cross and follow me.”;

In word and deed he points the way.

He knew he had to suffer much;

He was rejected by ‘the strong’;

Priests, elders, teachers of the law

Saw him a threat; he was so wrong!

The conflict grew, intense and grim;

They planned to silence him in death;

But Jesus would not bow to fear;

He uttered love with his last breath.

May we have strength and firm resolve

To live with bold integrity,

To lose our life in gracious love

Like long ago in Galilee.
