Why did his love meet such a cruel death?
What in his life could ever justify
Such violent force to choke his noble breath?
He had preached peace; he showed us how to care;
Welcomed the lowly; outcasts called him ‘Friend’;
When I look back, it leaves me in despair;
Why is love killed? I cannot comprehend!
Was this some plan? Some prophesy fulfilled?
Is violence used to crush the strength of sin?
When goodness triumphs, why must love be killed?
Answers must let God’s light come streaming in.
