God of the poor, and those oppressed,
God of the powerless,
God of the ones without a voice,
God cries in their distress.
When we approach a troubled soul,
Encounter those who bleed,
In each of these who are depressed
God comes to us in need.
Jesus, his message is quite clear,
If we have eyes to see;
“When you act justly and with love
You do it unto me.”
When, in God’s need, we hear God’s cry
From tragic human strife,
What answer shall be ours to give?
What is our hope for life?
Is it to bridge the gulf we make
Between the rich and poor?
Is it to bring God’s kingdom in
By loving more and more?
