Ministry (Vol 3 No 84)
We are community, one with each other;
We now name Jesus, our mentor and friend;
Coming together as his sister, brother –
Close bonds unite us; on these we depend.
Joining in history
Searching God’s mystery
Looking to Jesus to show us the way;
We uphold all who have honoured his teachings;
Those in our past and those gathered today.
We have a story of love never ending;
This sacred story is what we proclaim;
Jesus’ compassion is ever extending
When we respond to his ultimate claim.
Old and New Testament,
Liturgy, sacrament -
These are some agents to share ‘means of grace’,
Voicing a call to a full life of service;
Op’ning our hearts to greet God’s warm embrace.
In gracious ministry reaching God’s people,
There is not one who is outside our call;
We need not look for a church or a steeple;
Some of God’s children are found where they fall.
Jesus’ inclusiveness
Grounded in gentleness
Is so essential in all we might do;
Pastors and carers do not sit in judgement;
Grace and forgiveness give space to renew.
Justice and equity - signs of God’s kingdom -
Struggle to stand when confronted with wrong;
Prophets of God, with great courage and wisdom,
Question all evil, although it’s so strong.
God is in ministry;
We can sense victory;
We know that love will outlast everything;
So we are thankful for Jesus, his message;
We can rejoice in his love as we sing.
