Temple cleansing (YB No 104

Some stories we hear – they prompt us to pause;

If conflict is rife, we ponder its cause;

When Jesus encountered what he knew was wrong

His outspoken stand was persistent and strong.

By ‘system’ abuse allowed to proceed

The Temple was stained by fraud, graft and greed;

No ‘meek and mild’ Jesus was seen in the way

He threw down the tables; his rage on display!

Is our church so clean?  Can we give it praise?

Is cleansing our need in more subtle ways?

Division and dogma are thieves that can steal

The value of worship, the Jesus’ appeal.

Then let us repent of ways that exclude;

Let Jesus be seen in our attitude;

He points the way forward; his challenge we hear;

We pledge to give welcome; in love, be sincere.
