How dare we! (Vol 1 No 78)
Dogmas, creeds, they have their day;
Set in place to show the way;
Yet the church used them to slay
Those who chose to disobey.
In the past, to our dismay
Orthodoxy, on display,
Does not constantly portray
Justice or Christ’s loving way.
Change, reforms accommodate
New insights that liberate;
Creeds, when penned are out of date;
They exclude, can separate.
So, how dare we consciously
Try to cage Divinity
In religiosity;
Such is pure mockery!
God, the wondrous mystery -
Never found in bigotry;
Not confined to liturgy,
Nor to our theology.
We should never ever try
To force others to comply
With our dogmas that imply
That we know, How? When? and Why?
We can ponder and explore
All the doubts we can’t ignore;
In our sixty years or more
We can challenge creed or law;
For our spirit’s journey here
We need freedom, never fear;
Seeking, searching when sincere
Frees the soul, helps truth appear.
