After Pentecost     Pentecost 11     John 6:35, 41-51, particularly verses 41-42(See also Mark 6:2-3, 11:27-28.)

No-one Special (YB No 136)

When Jesus came to town

He turned things upside-down;

A rebel with a cause -

He criticised their laws;

The people asked him, “Who are you

To tell us what we ought to do?”

 “We know where you begun;

We know you’re Joseph’s son.

You can’t be God’s elect.”

They gave him no respect.

He was not special -  so they thought -

They said his life would come to naught.

With no prestige or fame,

With no important name,

When people scoff or jeer

We want to disappear;

But God within can prompt our heart

To venture forth and play our part.

God’s reign is seen on earth

Each time that we give birth

To gentleness and grace,

Make justice commonplace;

These special deeds, in every way

Will reaffirm God’s reign each day.
