We have wisdom from past sages
Told in stories as a guide;
Gospel writers told such stories
Decades after Jesus died.
In some stories there is conflict;
Others tell of love and care;
Some have gospel writers’ comments
Meanings Jesus may not share.
Kingdom stories told by Jesus
Were of ‘lost’ and ‘outcasts’ found;
Stories of God’s reign of justice;
Stories of God’s love profound.
When we hear these stories telling
Of forgiveness, costly care,
They will comfort and engage us;
Jesus’ teachings - surely there.
These are stories with the Good News
Of a love that knows no end;
We are challenged to be partner,
Spreading love to foe and friend.
