Do we run away? (Vol 3 No 59)
Under the cloak of darkness,
They wanted no unrest;
They found him a garden;
And made their quick arrest.
Disciples, those beside him,
In terror, fled that place;
They left him with the soldiers;
A sad and dark disgrace!
But should we judge so quickly?
For fear had gripped each one;
We wonder if we’d been there,
Would we have also run?
Do we sometimes sit quietly
When protest should be loud
Supporting those who suffer?
We’re frightened of the crowd.
In secret, Peter followed,
But soon denied his Lord;
He swore he did not know him -
The man whom he adored.
Three times he was unfaithful;
He was so terrified;
But when he pondered later,
It broke his heart. He cried.
Again we should be careful
And not condemn too fast;
For tears may be in order
When thinking of our past;
Thank God we are forgiven
For each offence we cause;
Let Jesus Christ remind us -
Love beckons and restores.
