Statement 2 (Vol 4 No 23)

Our God is a human construction arising out of an evolution of thought – an evolution of conceptions of God, from earliest times to the present.

We can give thanks and can value our past human wisdom;

Yet, when evolving, our concepts will widen our spectrum;

Thoughts can arise

Built on the past that we prize;

But we give new truths a welcome.

God of the past, we acknowledge was thought to be violent;

This super-being would sometimes be present or absent;

Concepts can change

Evolve from what we think strange;

God-thoughts today are so different.

God of the past, we remember dwelt high up in heaven;

God, the creator, made all in just days – less than seven!

Concepts can change

Evolve from what we think strange;

We heed new truths when they beckon.

Concepts of God, when determined as dogma should never

Gain such control and have claim to be valid for ever;

We must exclaim

Concepts do not stay the same;

We will join each new endeavour.
