Jesus is honoured (Vol 4 No 64)
Jesus, the man we heed,
A Rabbi bold and free,
He brings to view in word and deed
A new humanity;
The ‘sacred’ is laid bare
In ways that are unique,
By giving godly- human care
He shows that love can speak.
Jesus, a man so strong,
His courage is on show;
He would not compromise with wrong;
Yet loved both friend and foe;
In all his daring drive
For justice, equity,
New promise and new hope arrive
For truth and liberty.
Jesus, a noble man,
He shunned both fame and wealth;
Instead he humbly shared his plan
For human peace and health;
He welcomed all the poor;
Refused to be their king;
With outcasts, prisoners of the law -
He taught them how to sing.
How shall we honour him –
This man from Galilee?
He does not ask for prayer or hymn,
Nor shallow piety.
When loving deeds are done,
When we have banished fear
Is when the Christ in us has won,
And God’s own reign is here.
