Accumulating or sharing (Vol 2 No 46)
When looking at life for sense and design
What can we discern what makes it so fine?
How tragic when wealth is the mark of success;
For Jesus great riches would never impress.
We’re told to consume; on this we depend;
We’re told that we save as long as we spend;
Exposure to programmes suggesting our need
Teach us how to covet; they cultivate greed.
Can justice be found when markets compete?
When profits are king; corruption discreet?
When Jesus is master then honesty reigns;
Fair trading is normal; deceit is in chains.
We contemplate God as God of the poor,
But how can this be if we want much more?
We listen to Jesus; his message is clear;
When graciously sharing God’s Kingdom is near.
