Understand Not

The idea man must be taught of God and be born from above is very prominent in the New Testament. We must be quickened by understanding God's word.

Unfortunately, not everyone comes to a good understanding of salvation and ultimately speak against God's plan of salvation.

So, what makes a false prophet in God's view?

1. They fail to understand God's theology.

2. They have a self-willed spirit that causes them to promote personal logic.

3. Their self-will causes them to speak against truth.

Consider Peter's definitions;

2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

Satan was the false prophet in Eden.

2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2Pe 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

It is a combination of not understanding some things and a presumptive self-willed pride.

The best definition of a false prophet is they openly oppose and speak against the truth.

The rise of Catholicism began with some prideful men who misunderstood a few basic parts of salvation. They developed a following and persuaded others to follow.

2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

The word pernicious means to bring death. The Catholic Church has long stood for many fleshly vices. Homosexuality, drunkenness, celibacy degrading marriage, and many other vices common to destruction.
