Heresies Among You

We know that heresies would permeate the church, therefore the false would dwell amongst the faithful. That is why Catholics can claim they came from the true church, they did co-exist amongst the church. Heresy to Paul wasn't just rejecting Christ's sacrafice, it included misapplying Christ's sacrafice to promote sin.

1Co 11:19  For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

1Co 11:20  When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.

1Co 11:21  For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken

A drunken priest serving sacraments would indeed be a heresy. Their approach to the supper would be incorrect. It was sinful and cause for physical sickness.

1Co 11:27  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

1Co 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

1Co 11:29  For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

Men who did not honor the holiness of the activity ate and drank damnation. One might say the blood of Jesus covered such sinfulness, the blood of Jesus was meant to bring people out of such activity. A view to the cross always promoted holiness and bad examples aren't with a view to the cross.

Heb 10:24  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Heb 10:25  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Heb 10:26  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

The purpose of assembly was to promote love and good works, assemblies promoting sin were condemned.

Thus, heresy went beyond denying Christ's deity, or denying his sacrafice, it included sinfulness during sacramental worship.

Point is, sinful priests performing holy worship may render the worship valid for those not practicing sin as the priest, but sinful men practicing unholy worship whether priest or not, is not acceptable to God.
