Irresistable Love

One doctrine of Augustine was that Love was made possible by grace. Calvin took that farther by saying grace was irresistible. Augustine in some ways taught irresistible grace, but was not as fully developed in wording.

In their view grace was insurmountable, if God chose a person to love him, then he would love God and it could not be resisted.

One verse that contradicts this view,

Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Of course they argue God's grace will always bring them back, but Christ says here they can be removed and lost.

Love as a grace was not irresistible.
