Seal By Priests

The seal of the Spirit according to Catholic theology was given by the priest with the anointing of oil.

1st Council of Constantinople 381 AD

Those who from heresy turn to orthodoxy, and to the portion of those

who are being saved, we receive according to the following method and

custom:  Arians, and Macedonians, and Sabbatians, and Novatians, who

call themselves Cathari or Aristori, and Quarto-decimans or Tetradites,

and Apollinarians, we receive, upon their giving a written renunciation

[of their errors] and anathematize every heresy which is not in

accordance with the Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of God.

Thereupon, they are first sealed or anointed with the holy oil upon the

forehead, eyes, nostrils, mouth, and ears; and when we seal them, we

say, "The Seal of the gift of the Holy Ghost."  But Eunomians, who are

baptized with only one immersion, and Montanists, who are here called

Phrygians, and Sabellians, who teach the identity of Father and Son,

and do sundry other mischievous things, and [the partisans of] all

other heresies--for there are many such here, particularly among those

who come from the country of the Galatians:--all these, when they

desire to turn to orthodoxy, we receive as heathen.  On the first day

we make them Christians; on the second, catechumens; on the third, we

exorcise them by breathing thrice in their face and ears; and thus we

instruct them and oblige them to spend some time in the Church, and to

hear the Scriptures; and then we baptize them.

In their view the seal is by the consent of the church and not administered by the Father, Christ, or the Holy Spirit.

All of this seems to be entirely made up, for there was no anointing of oil to be sealed with the Spirit in the entire New Testament. You can study every conversion and oil is never involved.

On the other hand, oil was used in anointing the sick or sinful, but these were already brothers.

Wouldn't they have already been sealed?

Jas 5:13  Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Jas 5:14  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

Jas 5:15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Jas 5:16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

It seems the Catholics have confused two different things. The anointing with oil was never associated with the seal of the Spirit. It may have been symbolic in the old testament, but that worship was removed by Christ.

It also amazes me they refused some baptisms because they were not immersed three times, but accepted those only sprinkled.

In the New Testament there is one immersion, just dipped once, that one immersion in one name, the three persons of the godhead acting under one name. Catholics created a dogma that was unnecessary and used it to separate themselves from others.

Swallowed the camel so to speak.

We have one immersion under one name.

Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Baptism is "into" the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (adoption) Matt.28:19, but upon the name of Christ. Acts 2:38

Neither is a baptismal formula as used by different groups. Both ideas are doctrines associated with baptism.
