Gifts Restoration

Pentecostals started their claims to gifts in or around 1901, the claim was that the gifts of the Spirit were restored through them.

Their theory was similar to other restoration pleas where they believed the church fell away into Catholicism and in the process the gifts ceased. They taught the gifts returned through them.

The problem is the founders of Pentecostalism admitted the gifts had ceased and were not being exercised until them.

They actually support our argument gifts ceased since they claimed to restore them..

1Co 13:8  Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

The only question is whether they are the original gifts or a delusion from God.

2Th 2:11  Therefore R20God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe R21what is false,

In most cases gifts like tongues are tied to Zionism, where they believe Christ will return and establish a Kingdom on earth.

Almost all Pentecostals dating from Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and many Popes believed in Zionism. Irenaeus actually predicted Christ would come before 1000 AD but he was incorrect.

Spiritual Gifts role in Futhering the Cause of Zion

Use of spiritual gifts (DC 46:7, Moroni 10:10-12) lead to the baring of the fruits of the spirit (2 Peter 1:4-8, Ephesians 4), which, in turn, enable us to accomplish the beatitudes (Matthew 5) and receive the associated promised blessings. In essence, this is the path toward greater spiritual condition, which thus furthers the cause of Zion; for Zionic conditions are no closer nor any further away than our spiritual condition justifies according to DC 140:5c. Also notice that the vitality of our testimony of Jesus Christ correlates to our spiritual condition; for the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4, Revelation 19:10).

The difference between Justin Martyr and Irenaes and the modern prophets of Zionism is some said they got their beliefs from study while modern Pentecostals claim they received the doctrine from prophecy.

Justin Martyr admitted others of his day did not believe in their zionist premillinial concepts.
