Catholic or Protestant

We occasionally get a reminder that there may not be just two choices. I was studying with a Greek Orthodox priest a few years back and he reminded me that Catholic and Protestant may be the same choice.

Rev 17:5  And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

If Catholicism was the harlot of Revelation as many had taught, then Church of England, Christ's Church, Lutheran, Methodist, Nazarene, and even some baptist were her children. All having origins from Catholic teachers who had rejected some points of Catholicism but held others. She was clearly their mother.

I don't believe we can condemn one without shedding equal light on others. Protestants had consistently seen Rome as the Harlot.

"There never has been any difficulty in the mind of any enlightened Protestant in identifying the woman 'sitting on seven mountains,' and having on her forehead the name written, 'Mystery, Babylon the Great,' with the Roman apostacy" (from the Introduction to "The Two Babylons: Or, The Papal Worship Proved to be the Worship of Nimrod and His Wife" [1853]

Yet,protestants are her children, she was the mother of Harlots.

Protestants can't condemn their mother without condemning themselves.

1. If protestans are right about the woman, they still condemn themselves as her children.

2. If wrong about Rome being the Harlot then they condemn themselves for teaching that which is false and slanderously speaking against Catholics.

Either way they stand condemned.
