Mixing Worship

One lesson we learn from the Book of Revelation is that God didn't want the church mixing with Paganism. This is one of the most prominent points from Revelation. Yet, this doesn't stop churches from bringing in secular practices into the church. Many churches actively proclaiming we can do pretty much what we want as long as Christ's name is mentioned.

Christ put this false doctrine to rest while teaching the sermon on the mount. He was teaching disciples the skills and wisdom they would need to go and produce churches that would pattern his teaching and doctrine. Jesus said not to copy the practice of the synagogue or the practice of the heathen. Which is a precedent we should consider before adding false religious or secular practices to the church.

Mat 6:2  Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Mat 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Christ did not promote the Jewish synagogue as he watched it while on earth. Many seem to think learning about the Jewish manners of his day is precedent for us. It really isn't. They had many bad practices Jesus didn't endorse.

The heathen as a foreign group, at least separate from Judaism, were also never endorsed by Christ.

Jesus specifically commanded the disciples not to copy them. Thus, copying religious or secular practices isn't the way we build a congregation. It was forbidden by Christ.

We should realize that almost all churches today teach we can mix in whatever we want. It isn't true.

Paul said he built as a wise master builder and those following would build on what he started. He said that those defiling God's temple with human ideas would be judged.

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1Co 3:17  If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Bringing in secular or false religious ideas is dangerous to the soul.
