Church Not Protestant

Catholics tend to teach all non-Catholics are protestants. Most coming from Martin Luther or John Calvin. These taught in the 1500's. If we can show the Church of Christ's existence prior to Martin Luther we can prove we were never protestants. This we can do, we can show different groups existed before Luther with our basic theology.

A quote mentioned in other articles proves it easily. We can prove one area of England had Churches of Christ with believers baptism theology concurrent with Luther. Since we had a different theology we can prove we were never protestant by timing and by theological differences. We can also prove it by location. These congregations were not near Luther or Calvin born churches.

Anglican clergyman, Dr Daniel Featly, (who was one of the translators of the King James Bible) wrote in 1645 of the Churches of Christ meeting in London and elsewhere in his work the 'Dippers Dipt', took those congregations back to 1525 when he quotes from them "That baptism ought to be received by none, but such as can give a good account of their faith; and in case any have been baptized in their infancy, that they ought to be re-baptized after they come to years of discretion, before they are to be admitted to the Church of Christ." These churches in the 1600s were in communication with other churches of Christ in America, nearly two hundred years before Campbell!

Having historical proof of such churches in one area concurrent with Luther is sufficient to prove we are neither protestant nor Catholic. 1525 is four years after Luther's excommunication, and four years is not sufficient to start churches based upon Luther's teachings, and then change to a believer's baptism theology. 1525 is not the earliest date for such a theology, as this group in England can be traced to the 11th century, much earlier than Luther or Calvin. Those teaching our theology can be found in groups going back to the apostles.

It is obvious we aren't protestant.
