Phinehas and Righteousness

One other man that was reckoned as righteous was Phinehas, though not as famous as Abraham or David his life history was preserved for us for all ages.

Psa 106:30  Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

Psa 106:31  And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

It is true his act was counted for righteousness where Paul says belief was counted for righteousness.

If nothing else it again shows that righteousness was reckoned based upon a singular act. Of course faith only groups may twist it as they have Abraham saying it was really because of faith, the record let's us know the act was reckoned for righteousness.

I am sure faith was at work behind the scenes but it was the act that was noted.

It might be that reckoned for righteousness isn't substituting faith for righteousnes, it may just be public recognition that sealed his reputation.

God can count both faith and actions as righteous if he wants, accounting is public recognition.

He became a living display for all generations.

So, when God reckoned Abraham righteous, was he just making his name great before all generations?

 Gen 12:11-3   and make thy name great;

Certainly faith or the action can be counted for the same purpose if God chooses.

Plus, whether recognized through faith or action righteousness, it is righteousness. He isn't substituting but recognizing the state Phinehas already had.

Both Phinehas and Abraham had actions counted for righteousness.
