Hearing and Teaching

One good example of being quickened by the word is found in Colossians chapter one, it shows the necessity of hearing the Gospel and being taught the Gospel's precepts. Hope is based upon being taught about our future as Christians.

The direct operation of the Holy Spirit is not necessary, since he chose to use select gifted men to teach the early church, the word was then passed down from generation to generation, being preserved in the writings of the early church by the Apostles and prophets.

Early prophets being Mark and Luke for example. The Apostles being the twelve.

Col 1:5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

Col 1:6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

Col 1:7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;

Paul goes out of his way, with guidance from the Holy Spirit, that grace was given through hearing the Gospel.
