Doing Good or Evil

The book of John lets us know from Christ's own words that we will be judged for doing evil or good. Of course, the context is listening to Christ's words. Good and evil are defined by the word of Christ.

John 5:28-30New International Version (NIV)

28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

I know having to do something offends faith only groups, they should remember that saying a sinner's prayer would be doing something; so they have no clear objection.

This good or evil is defined by Christ's words as stated in the Gospels. That is the context of the book of John, that Christ had the words of the Father.

John 3:34 for the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God.

That means that our relation to the Gospel, whether we support the word of Christ or not will determine our eternal fate. Not just supporting it verbally, but in what we do.

In reality it is the Father's word.

Joh 5:30  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

This fits Matthew 7:21 very well.

Doing good by following the words of Christ is justification by faith. Belief in John's writings defines believing as confidence Jesus was God's messenger and Jesus delivered the Father's will.

Mat 7:21  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

This is works justifying our faith, not works justifying us by law. The Jews did not know God or his word to the point of true faith.

Joh 5:38  And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
