Towards Man Or God

One teaching of Baptists and other faith only groups is that baptism is a testimony toward man that you believe in Christ. Max Lucado has a similar statement as well.

There are no statements in scripture stating baptism is toward man, and the opposite is clearly shown from scripture.

Baptism is toward God, not man.

1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

It was proof you believed the words of God's messenger, whether John or Christ, thus a testimony God was righteous in his baptism.

Luk 7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

Baptism is toward God and not man. Only the Pharisees saw baptism as an act to please crowds.

Mat 21:26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

Baptists in a like sense baptize to appeal to men, because they would lose all credibility if they dismissed baptism in general, they do dismiss the true faith of baptism.
