Quicken or Regenerate

Those who teach we are regenerated by the Holy Spirit apart from God's word fail to see that nature is changed by changing knowledge and desires. So that God quickened man through the knowledge of the cross and resurrection, the Gospel changed man's focus from earth to eternal life in heaven. The Gospel taught man to think and live differently.

Eph 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Eph 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

Eph 4:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Eph 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;

Eph 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

The education about the Gospel is God's quickening. The Gospel changed mans hope and focus. Faith only groups believe the quickening is when the Holy Spirit changes the heart directly by falling upon man, but Paul is teaching the Holy Spirit changed man's heart through education of the Gospel.

Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Ephesians 4 explains the quickening process introduced in Ephesians 2.

Quickening is educating us so we can think differently through faith. As Jesus taught in John 6.

Joh 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
